Every cancer is unique.
Conventional treatments are not tailored to an individual’s specific cancer. Even when they are effective, they are toxic to the entire body, not just the cancer cell. We want to change that.
Now, for the first time, we have the technology to rapidly discover new non-toxic therapeutic approaches.
Our mission is to accelerate the science that makes this possible, and get it to the people who need it. Every cancer cell contains a crucial set of genes that we can think of as “locks”. The right drugs can act as chemical “keys” to unlock cancer cells and destroy them with extraordinary precision, leaving the rest of the body unharmed. The 30,000 potential locks in the human genome have been identified, and the keys themselves already exist, in huge collections of chemical compounds that have already been catalogued and named.
Today, using a state-of-the-art technology called High Throughput Screening (HTS), we can test tens of thousands of combinations at once to find the right locks and fit them with the right keys. By coordinating this effort, the Carlo Grandori Foundation will bring this revolutionary science from the lab to the patient, and fund the research needed to vastly accelerate the delivery of effective, nontoxic new therapies for cancer and other diseases.
